Don't be afraid, just speak!
This was the motto of my father who spoke nine languages. He would walk up to complete strangers to practice the languages he knew, even in old age. For him, culture and identity were always intertwined with language, with stories, songs and jokes. And language was a key that opened doors for him, to many people and possibilities. It is my motivation to pass on this key to my students – by giving them confidence while using German.
The right profession for me
I was fascinated with linguistics and literature throughout high school and at the university of Vienna where I graduated in German Philology (Magister degree) and completed my certificate to teach German as a foreign language. When I started to teach in 2007 I realized very soon that I had found my passion. Language AND interaction with people from all over the world – the ideal combination for me.
Many cultures – one family
I am from Vienna but when my family gets together, you will hear – besides my two native languages German and Dutch – Polish, Danish, Urdu and Arabic. The mix of different languages and cultures has been everyday life for me since I was little. I love to discover new languages and I am learning Spanish now because my husband is from Colombia. I feel the same as all adults who learn a foreign language: It’s fun, it’s a challenge but at times it can be frustrating. And it takes great effort to start using what you have learned in everyday life.
Let’s face your challenge of learning German together!
